Publicity Offerings:

It’s my pleasure to introduce a new offering for publicity consults for writers at every stage of their journey. Below you’ll find three different packages you can choose from depending on what you need. Each of these packages are aimed at helping writers understand and excel in the publicity process. They each function as consultations, not full on publicity campaigns. These short sprints will help educate authors, with or without an upcoming book, about the publicity landscape and also help generate actionable ideas on how to place them within the larger literary world.

PACKAGE 1: WHAT TO EXPECT, PUBLICITY EDITION

Good for writers with:

  • A book coming out or writers interested in the publicity process, so they’re better prepared for the future when they do have a book coming out.

About this package:

  • This package is geared towards a writer who has a book coming out in the next 1-2 years–although it could also be beneficial for a writer who would like to educate themselves on the publicity process for their future book. Publicity is an amorphous concept and it’s hard to know how exactly success is measured– and how your work will be slotted into the larger literary narrative. I have worked with a variety of writers, from first book authors to Pulitzer Prize winners, to help them understand the process, define success, and arm them with information so they can feel empowered throughout this journey. This package is for someone hoping to understand the best practices in a book’s publicity process. This will be a series of learning consultations specifically tailored to your work so you feel empowered to take charge of your publicity journey.

Examples of knowledge include:

  • Defining publicity–a successful campaign can mean different things to every author. Getting clear on what you want and what’s achievable is crucial to the success of your campaign.

  • What to expect from your press’s publicist–and what it would look like to hire an outside publicist

  • The timeline you should expect for your publicity rollout– including an overview on galleys, review copies, blurbs, cover design, etc.

Time commitment:

  • This project will run about one-two months. It will consist of two Zoom meetings, one hour each, as well as ~4 hours of my time outside of those meetings so I can create a publicity plan tailored specifically to your needs– this includes access to me via email, which will be answered once a week.

What you’ll get:

  • We will work together to define your goals + what a successful publicity campaign would mean for you and your book. I will put together a “best practices” document, which will be tailored specifically to your needs and can include a publicity timeline as well as an overview on galleys, review copies, blurbs, cover design, and media outlets. We will discuss what to expect from your press’s publicist–and what it would look like to hire an outside publicist. My goal is for you to leave armed with actionable knowledge about the publicity process.

PACKAGE 2: FOR THOSE STARTING THEIR JOURNEY

Who it’s for:

  • Writers who want to put energy and effort into getting their book slotted with a press (or a different press), or those writers who want to get their writing out into the world via lit mags/ online journals in order to establish, or further establish, themselves in their literary community.

About this package:

  • This package is geared towards those writers who have yet to publish a book or would like to take their publishing journey in a different direction. I will work with you to understand your publishing goals and aesthetic and come up with a tailor list of presses, online journals and literary magazines that you could submit to in order to get your work out into the literary landscape. For presses, this will include in depth knowledge of their publishing practices, aesthetics, and publicity processes. For journals and literary magazines this will include me flagging which excerpts I think would be best to submit in order to establish you in the larger literary narrative.

Time Commitment:

  • Two Zooms (up to 45 minutes each) with me to establish your goals, discuss the process, and get you a tailored list of presses, mags, etc. This project will run about one-two months and will also include ~2 hours of my time outside of our calls to come up with this tailored list–and access to me via email, which will be answered once a week.  Note, this does not include me submitting any work for you.

What you’ll get:

  • You will establish your publishing goals. After that, you’ll get you a tailored list of presses and lit mags that you can then submit to.

PACKAGE 3: ESSAYS AND EXCERPTS

This is for:

  • Writers who want guidance on placing poems, essays, and features. In this project, the writer and I will work to define which outlets best suit their needs and I will come up with a target list. I will pitch 3-5 targets for the author.

About this package:

  • Whether you have a book coming out or want to keep your name in reader’s minds, placing essays and excerpts in top tier literary outlets is a good way to accomplish both. Excerpts/essays can help readers stay involved in your work or give them an avenue into your forthcoming book.

Includes:

  • Two 30-minute Zoom calls and up to 4 hours of my time outside of those meetings so I can create a list and pitch.  This includes access to me via email, which will be answered once a week.

A LA CART ADD ONS TO ANY PROJECT OR STAND ALONE ITEMS:

  1. Review Assets: Press Kit, media List, Galley

    • This is for writers who have a book coming out and want help sifting through their press’s assets to gut check them, flag anything, and provide publicity insights.

  2. Media training

    • This is for writers who want to learn how to speak about their work. This is great for authors who have books coming out in the next year. This will include two 30-minute Zooms with me and a list of publicity best practices i.e. how you can help your book succeed/ how to activate your community.

  3. Freelance vs. in house publicist

    • This is for writers who want to understand the differences between an in house and freelance publicist. This will include recommendations for freelance publicists as well as a list of presses with in house publicity representation. We will also go over what questions to ask when interviewing outside publicists vs questions to ask your in house team. This will also go over how to best have your in house publicist and freelance publicist work together. This includes a 1 hour zoom with me plus access to me via email for any followup questions.
